On Saturday, July 15th, 2023, the Creole Descendant Association DMV kicked off its vibrant annual celebrations with the Luncheon Sale at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church located in Takoma Park, Maryland. This was followed by the soulful Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, July 16th, marking a weekend filled with cultural festivities and profound reflection.
Sunday morning was filled with a traditional service of songs and praise, drawing the community together in heartfelt worship.
Thanking the Lord for His grace
Reverend Raymond Max-Jones, our esteemed guest preacher, delved into the thanksgiving theme, “Thanking the Lord for His grace.” He beautifully illuminated the rich heritage and inheritance of the Creoles and the foundational values of the Krio.
Saturday afternoon was abuzz with excitement as attendees were treated to an array of delectable dishes from Sierra Leone at the Luncheon Sale. It was a wonderful opportunity not only for community members to indulge in familiar tastes but also for guests to experience the rich culinary delights of the Creole heritage.
A highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the vibrant display of traditional attire. The women were resplendent in their “print” dresses, a captivating burgundy shade, complemented with matching traditional head ties.
